Event Description
Anti-Shoplifting & De-escalation Skills - Staying Aware, Calm & Professional in Challenging Situations
Wednesday 11 February, 17.30pm - 19.00pm (1.5 hours), Online
Shoplifting and challenging customer behaviour are ongoing issues for high street businesses and can have a significant impact on staff confidence, safety and morale. This practical virtual workshop supports teams to develop greater awareness, confidence and de-escalation skills, helping them deal with difficult situations safely and professionally.
Part of the Supporting Hull & East Yorkshire High-Street Businesses series, this session focuses on prevention, observation and communication, rather than confrontation, and includes local insight into current behaviours to ensure learning is relevant and realistic.
Key Learning Objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
• Understand current shoplifting behaviours and local risk factors
• Improve awareness and prevention on the shop floor
• Use customer engagement as a deterrent
• Apply practical de-escalation techniques
• Respond to challenging situations calmly and professionally
• Prioritise personal and team safety
• Follow appropriate reporting and escalation procedures
• Leave with clear actions to improve confidence and safety
